I've heard this about other countries before... guess it's true for Spain as well. It's hard to get much done around here. I've been wanting to get things done and have ran out of time. So it's back to one project per day.
Firstly, you need time to get to places. I've been walking everywhere. People who know me know that I'm not much of a walking person. I really miss my bicycle! So after walking miles and miles, I decided to rent a bike. I looked up rental places on the Internet. I found absolutely nothing on those streets. But today I finally found another address, even though it was in a completely different place than Google Maps said. Come on Google, you can do better than this! But I've rented a 'bicicleta' now. Yay! Now I'm afraid of getting it stolen...!
Then I need a Spanish mobile number. In every store I've had to wait for half an hour to ask for pricing. Turns out I cannot get a contract without a Spanish bank account. So I settled for Prepaid. Now the SIM card doesn't fit my phone. I can't even get my old SIM card to work on it. Aaah! Too many projects in one day! At least I have my bike to go back to the store now...
Here are my tid bits of knowledge:
ReplyDeleteWhen you get to Sevilla RENT THE CITY BIKES. It is totally worth getting a 'long term' rental card. You won't have to worry about them being stolen (and this is a major problem there) and they are totally free to use. Well the 1st half hour is free and I only once used it more than that. It only takes 10-15 minutes to get anywhere. And if you need it longer than 30 minutes all you have to do is check the bike in, as if you are returning it, and check it out again and viola! You get another free 30 minutes. It is a huge convenience. The website is www.sevici.es
Getting a spanish bank account is SUPER EASY!!! Go to caja sol. They were easy and friendly and I opened and closed one without any hassle. Their atm machines are everywhere - AND THEY SUPPORT FLAMENCO. In Sevilla there is a theater that has flamenco every thursday and it's called something like Caja Sol cultural center...something like that. They have top artists in an intimate theater, and they give a student discount! It is right near El corte ingles in the center.
LASTLY, yoigo has the best rates!!! But I don't know if they do contracts. But a cell phone, with unlimited texting, is super importante!!!
That's it. Can't wait to see you!!!! I love the posts!
THANKS Justine. I knew about the Sevilla bikes but didn't realize I'd miss my bike so much here in Cádiz. I don't know what I'm going to do when I'm here for my other three weeks - it's cheaper to buy a secondhand bike but then what would I do with it?
ReplyDeleteAnd that bank and cell phone info is priceless - I'll think of that! I'm with Orange Prepaid now but will think about opening a bank account.
Can't wait to see YOU! Hugs amiga!
Il me faut apprendre l'anglais, Ne peux-tu pas écrire en français ou en allemand ou en suisse allemand. Pense bien à toi. Grand-papa se réjouit de tout lire en anglais. Bisou. Mamie
